Dental implants - A modern method of smile restoration

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are an innovative and permanent solution for patients who have lost one or more teeth. They consist of a titanium implant placed in the jawbone, which acts as an artificial root, and a prosthetic restoration - a crown, bridge or denture. Implants perfectly replicate natural teeth, providing full functionality and aesthetics.

Advantages of dental implants

  • Natural look - Implants are visually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
  • Full functionality - enable them to eat, speak and smile freely.
  • Durability - With proper hygiene, they can serve for many years or even a lifetime.
  • No need to grind adjacent teeth - As in the case of prosthetic bridges.
  • Prevention of bone atrophy - The implant stimulates the bone, preventing atrophy.

Who are dental implants for?

Dental implants are suitable for adults who:

  • They have lost a tooth or several teeth,
  • They have the right amount and quality of bone tissue,
  • They are generally healthy and have no contraindications to surgery.

Contraindications may include uncontrolled diabetes, severe osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases or active inflammation in the mouth. The final decision on treatment options is made by the implantologist after consultation and diagnostic tests.

Course of implant treatment

  1. Consultation and treatment planning - Detailed oral health assessment, CT scan and individualized treatment plan.
  2. Implant procedure - Performed under local anesthesia, it takes between 30 and 90 minutes.
  3. Healing and integration of the implant into the bone - The osteointegration period usually lasts from 3 to 6 months.
  4. Assembly of prosthetic restoration - Once healing is complete, a crown, bridge or prosthesis is placed over the implant.

Does the implant hurt?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is painless. After surgery, there may be slight swelling and discomfort, which subsides after a few days. Patients are given individual post-surgical instructions and painkillers and anti-inflammatory medications.

How to take care of dental implants?

  • Daily oral hygiene - brushing, flossing, using an irrigator.
  • Regular follow-up visits - at least once every 6 months.
  • Avoiding smoking - which negatively affects the healing process and durability of implants.
  • Protection against bite overload - for example, by using a relaxation splint for bruxism.
